SURFACE - An exhibition of surfboard art by Johannes Leak

Local artist Johannes Leak has created an exhibition of surfboard art unlike anything you may have seen floating in the line up. We asked Johannes to explain the premise behind the project;

"This project began with a drawing I did on my own surfboard of Andy Irons shortly after he passed away. It got me thinking that I could put an exhibition together of similar pieces, sticking more or less to the idea of portraits on surfboards - something you don't see in the water everyday. Thanks to the generosity of the various shapers and retailers that have jumped on board with the project I was able to get my hands on some beautiful handmade surfboards to work on. I've featured a couple of well known surfers but have also picked subjects who to me stand out as cult icons of modern times. People like Iggy Pop, Johnny Cash, Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicholson and Kate Moss might not have much to do with surfing but they share an individualism and free-spirited approach to living that all surfers identify with.
Surfing and making art are the two things I like doing best so this is a great way of bringing the two together."

Need we say more? Johannes' talent will inspire and delight, with all artworks available for purchase.
