Update 22nd April 2013

The last few days have seen us searching the wardrobe for an extra layer of clothing as winter seems to have hit with a vengeance and I doubt whether we will see again, the warm temps we were basking in at the beach only a week ago.

The dismal surf conditions I’ve been whining about all autumn have back flipped as well with some great looking waves finally arriving on our doorstep yesterday. Today is particularly pumping with a better wind arriving from the west, grooming the solid swell lines which are finally marching through.

Looks like the next couple of days will be the ones so make the most of them, that’s if you can of course. I know some of us have to work and the lucky few who don’t are certainly going to score!

Have fun out there!

Update 19th April 2013

It was a bit of a non-event in Bali yesterday. With a small swell running and an all day high tide, Uluwatu was not at its best. Still though – it was better than most days at home.

There is talk of a new little swell that is meant to arrive by late this afternoon here on the Island. It won't be anything mental, just a good jump in the swell period which should deliver some nice clean consistent head-high waves. Hopefully I'll have a chance to shoot some action in between surfs for you all.

I just had a quick look at the forecast for you guys back home. It looks like your going to be in for some weather and a good whack of messy swell. Sunday is going to be your best bet, as the winds ease, as that low pressure runs out of puff and moves off the coast. Check the real forecast – Coastalwatch

Update 18th April 2013

Selamat Pagi (Good Morning) from Uluwatu in Bali. It's always nice to get away and for me Bali is like my second home. I am not exactly sure, but I must have clocked up over 20 trips to this beautiful island over the last 15 years. Can you blame me? Guaranteed swell and world class waves pretty much all year round.

So, I have bunkered down on the Bukit Peninsula for a 10-day trip. The main peak at Ulus has been small but fun. It's my favorite little section at Ulus and I seem to have developed a knack for getting waves out there even when it's crowded. Honestly, these days there is easily anywhere from 50 – 100 people in the water at any one time. I hope that good luck keeps rolling for me!

I hope you guys scored a few for yourself yesterday at home. Gee it looked good. Maybe a few more today?

Up-date 17th April 2013

Finally the swell has arrived!

It’s got size, power, and the East facing beaches should have plenty today! It’s not the cleanest, but it’s clean enough. If you navigate through the close-outs and pick the right ones, you might be surprised how good those waves can be. I witnessed a few barrels, for several seconds, ….shhhhhhh and out!

It’s also a great day to watch some nice wipe-outs, if you’re not keen to go out. There are some pretty spectacular stunts happening, I can tell you that for free! Talking about wipe-outs, you can now vote for the Billabong XXL Wipeout nominees. Click on this link and see the 5 candidates…and feel the pain!

The weather might not be at its best right now, but it has offered some pretty amazing sunrises, lightning and storm fronts lately. If you want to check out a few of those storm shots, go and check out our Frothers Facebook page or have a look on my Insti (@franckgazzola). Share if you like !

Update 16th April 2013

I snapped an iphone image of North Bondi at sunset on Sunday afternoon and posted it to my instagram. I stated that the glorious summer weather we have been blessed with this first half of April was finally over. The way it’s looking now, I may be on the money.

It was cold, dark and wet as I headed for the beach this morning. That doesn’t faze me and I had plans to still head south to shoot the predicted solid surf at Cape Solander in Kurnell but after a quick check of the conditions at Bronte, I knew it wasn’t going to happen today.

I hate being pessimistic but the surf continues to be a disastrous disappointment of late. Internet predicted swell events have crumbled before our very eyes so often since the beginning of the year and with the last two day looking like being the ones we were finally due for, only to be denied once more, it’s kind of starting to hurt. This time of year is usually the best so I’m sure if you’re a surfer who enjoys a proper wave, you’re definitely feeling it too. Must keep the chin up, because like I said in my last report, that surfed out feeling we are all craving could still be just around the corner.

Pure Blonde are running a great competition at the moment, all you have to do to go in the running is upload an image of ‘A Rare Moment of Purity’. Check it out HERE.

Cheers!
