Update 25th Jan 2010

Hot, hot, hot and that’s how we like it! How good is diving in for the early with the summer sun shining into your melon. The much anticipated cyclonic waves arrived and as per usual the good-sized swell had nowhere to go. Luckily for the Bronte boys the sandbanks turned it on for Tuesday and they were all out there ripping. It was good to see a recovered Kobi Graham at his home break showing us how it’s really done.

Sunday morning at Bondi was small but really fun. The Bondi groms enjoyed it the most with Pama Davies who has improved out of sight over the school holidays. Beau Walker, Nitro, has had everyone at Bondi talking as the guy just doesn’t fall off as he performs air reverses with ease.

The Icebergs held a charity swim on Sunday morning for the Queensland flood appeal that was taken out by the Bondi Lifeguards. Geoff Huegill and the Sydney Kings also turned out to support our Northern counterparts. Keep the donations flowing.

Australia Day will give us all a pleasing midweek break and an excuse to float around on over sized inflatables. There will be waves for the rest of the week but onshore winds will be hanging around putting a dampener on things. Check out our friends at COASTALWATCH for more.

Update 17th Jan 2011

It's here! We've been waiting all weekend for the epic swell to arrive and it finally has! Unfortunately it failed to produce anything spectacular. Around here anyway. I'm sure we'll hear of tales of epic point break sessions going down somewhere north or south. If only we had booked that flight to Kirra, where Bondeye Candy's Musso spent the weekend filming. At least we will get a little taste of the good stuff from the trip.

While we have had fun waves around all week there was a definite buzz over the weekend. Saturday afternoon at Tama was like a war zone with 50 surfers battling for position in the line up, jostling shoulder to shoulder with boogers, clubbies and swimmers. A special mention must go to the local boys in blue. The Lifeguards at Tama were kept busy and made some amazing rescues mostly on surfers well in over their head getting caught out by the NE swell. A reminder to all that legropes do break and you should be confident enough and swim well enough to get yourself out of trouble before heading out in the more solid swell.

The weather looks kind of average this week with showers forecast, but wave wise there looks to be something to slide for the best part. Have a great week. Cheers

Update 11th Jan 2011

Well, didn’t Mother Nature put on a show this week! Biblical floods all over Oz and yet we enjoyed some of the warmest days we’ve seen in ages. The clouds burnt off for the later end of the week, which had the crowds flocking to our shores. Not only did we score weather wise but the surf cranked up a notch also – with Bondeye Candy’s Musso notching up enough hours in the surf within 2 days to last him 2 months! Tama was working early Sunday and the sand banks at Bondi made for some fun waves earlier on in the south corner. In this weeks slideshow we have some great images from local grom Rob Walwyn and Jeremy Wilmotte who is back in Fiji has flicked us a few shots to dream about.

Looking ahead we will see the swell stick around. The East tradewinds will be pushing some E to NE swell our way for the rest of the week. Check Coastalwatch for more details.

All the best for the new year!
