Update 8th July 2013

Seems like I miss all the excitement whenever I leave town. It’s not every day someone gets clobbered by a whale, while surfing at Bondi but that’s exactly what happened yesterday when Moby came to play in our little bay.

The poor fella seems to be ok (the whale). The other guy feels like he just joined the UFC after initially being knocked unconscious by the giant mammal with one light swat of his tail. Being a doctor, he probably would have known how to treat himself, had he been awake, but was instead fished out of the slap down zone by none other than Bondi’s ‘Champion of the World’ Tony Spannos! Legend!!

Anyway, I can’t compete with all that city action. I, myself, haven’t been slapped by a whale but I do actually feel half comatose. The laid back, sleepy surrounds up here in Port Douglas are definitely agreeing with my rest and relaxation program.

Have a great week everyone.

Update 5th July 2013

Sorry surfers, no on-site local beach report from me today as I’m away again, living it up in Port Douglas, trying to escape a bit of winter again up in the far north of our beautiful island.

From the looks of the cams in Sydney, it seems your run of surf bliss is just about over but if you're not surfed out already, Maroubra looks like the spot for some 2 foot leftovers today.

Too bad my trip up here coincides with the first week in month where it actually stopped raining. I also cop the rough end of the pineapple with the pumping east swell, off shore winds and glorious sunshine you guys have had the last few days!

Besides the drawback of there being no surf up here it’s not all bad. I'm swimming in boardshorts, laying in the sun, trekking through some amazing rainforest and eating fresh Barramundi burgers at the local cafe while experiencing that unusual feeling of being totally relaxed.

Life’s good!

Update 4th July 2013

The swell is pushing into town for a second day in a row. Although it has dropped a touch it is still worth a paddle. Again Tamarama or Maroubra are your best bet or a better option would be to take a drive down the coast and try and sniff something out.

A few of my mates headed south yesterday and scored big time! No reason why you couldn't do the same. Except for work of course….

Happy hunting!

Brad

Update 3rd July 2013

Well, you could say that it's pumping out there. More than the usual anyway. While it looks a little wobbly there looks to be some golden nuggets coming through every now and then.

This new ENE swell is hitting the 4 – 5ft mark and the NW wind is keeping things smooth. Tama or Maroubra are the pick of the bunch while Bondi is still looking ok just a foot or two smaller. There is a whole heap of water moving at Bronte so be careful if you happen to snap a leash out at Tama. Make sure you can actually swim before heading out today. No lifeguards are on duty. Your on your own!

I hope you find one of those golden nuggets today!

Brad 😉

Update 2nd July 2013

The wind was westerly this morning keeping it all very brisk down at the beach. There is a small 2 ft ESE swell getting into the bay and there was a lot of you out there in the south corner. It was busy, drop in galore in fact! Just another stock standard day at Bondi

The south corner is your best bet. Those on short boards will find it hard to get a good one. Those on longboards will score! Get out there quick as the wind is forecast to swing right around to the south and mess things up for the afternoon.

Enjoy your day. The sun is smiling! – Brad
