The last official month of winter has finally begun. It was 5 degrees at Sydney Airport yesterday at lunchtime and today won’t be much warmer. The one plus is that the water isn’t as cold as it was a couple of weeks ago, in fact, it’s pretty warm for this time of year. I hope it lasts but doubt that it will.

La Nina is still living up to it’s name this year, with another new low pressure intensifying off the coast. There are some huge waves coming through on the open beaches right now. It should peak tonight as the swell direction swings more east. The winds will also calm down tomorrow and remain westerly into the weekend. So all in all, it’s looking real good if you’re a surfer over the next few days. I'm off south to find something ridable today, so have left you with a few shots from last night at Bronte.

The big wave ‘paddle in’ craze is still going viral amongst the pro’s. This time it’s those crazy Tassie boys who are messing with that Shipsterns monster, without a jetski. Check out how sweet Marti Paradisis rides this wave. From his hard stroke in to get over the edge of the slab, followed by his late bottom turn to negotiate that evil step. Perfect technique.
