Kite Surfing seems like a great sport for people who like to ‘burn the candle’.

The wind is usually an afternoon thing, so a good sleep in isn’t necessarily a recipe for missing out on the best conditions of the day if your goal is rigging a kite and attacking some waves.

For a normal surfer of coarse it’s usually the opposite, with the early, windless conditions being the optimum time for ripping it up. So therefore, if you like to party and you’re sick of missing the early, glassy conditions, this could be the sport for you.

I am really enjoying my last week on Namotu. Shooting Ben Wilson’s Kite Surfing Camp. It has been a real eye opener for me, as I had very little idea about this 3 dimensional sport. It’s really just an extension of surfing – harnessing the wind to power a normal surfboard and like a lot of tow surfers these days, most prefer to do it ‘strapless’ so you can move your feet, as you do when you normally ride waves.

I’ll tell you one thing, its fast! And you can certainly cover some distance over the ocean in very little time. In that way, it’s very similar to wind surfing but less restricted, as you are riding your own short board that you would normally surf.

It’s very cool!
