It’s a very cool hello to everyone this morning as the winter westerly bites down hard on the city beaches. Just holding the camera and trying to feel the shutter button through locked up finger joints was quite difficult. Getting into your wetsuit for a surf a true test in itself, unless of course you were smart and changed at home in front of the heater. Either way, it will be worth it with a fresh new 4-6 foot + south swell hitting the coast. Bronte was the pick with some beautiful right handers breaking way out side, in line with the cemetery, with only 3 guys out before the sun popped up. Later the boys from Bronte paddled out and got some absolute bombs just like the one John Dwyer got in the main pic. Bondi had a couple of solid ones but was suffering on the low tide. However, it will improve later in the day. All in all an amazing winter morning out there with good conditions for the weekend. Some big calls going down on this next swell due Sunday. It could be the biggest, cleanest swell for decades but it's very south so we just have to wait to see whether it swings in or moves past.
From all of us here at Frothers, be careful out there in the ocean, enjoy and have a great weekend.
Gallery is open all weekend. We are selling flowers – so guys head in and grab a bunch for the Mrs! You're going to need them as you'll be surfing all weekend!

Good morning, the sun is out and the winds are howling again today. Straight outta the WNW at around 20 knots which has sort of knocked the swell down overnight. Another cracker of a sunrise with orange beams lighting up our coastline this morning. A few brave souls opting for a dip at Bronte this morning, although the water wasn't too bad it was the icy wind creating the most chills.
We still have a few waves hanging in there around the 2ft mark on the sets. It's coming from a dead south angle and Bondi is obviously the pick this morning, angling up the most of the size. That bank in the south corner is proving to be the best option but take a big stick stick with you to fight off the crowd. It is lacking a bit of punch but with nicely shaped banks still intact, there is the odd fun little section or two.
The swell is forecast to build into the weekend so I'm sure there will be plenty of waves to keep everyone happy.
Have a great day – Nick Sheffield

G'day Folks, tiny waves on first light but its actually starting to rise with 2 ft sets now hitting the Southside beaches. Those gale force west winds never really eventuated in Sydney, thank God, giving the ocean a silky clean finish. These beautiful conditions should prevail for the next few days with a considerable rise in swell tomorrow evening and Friday, followed by another swell after that so it looks like we are all about to get surfed out again. Lucky us!
I decided since it was so small that I would give you guys a look at Coogee Beach. Its not a beach we normally shoot to much because of its lack of swell but its a pretty beach none the less and deserves a run on Frothers. Plenty of people out and about swimming and training despite the cool conditions. Got to love winter in the city!
Nick Sheffield will be shooting the report tomorrow and Friday I will be back again, so look out for some decent surf action coming your way. Yeew!
Gallery is open for buisness 10am to 5pm at 145c Macpherson Street, Bronte so come check us out!
Cheers Billy

The ocean is as smooth as silk today, there's not a ripple or a splash. But don't be fooled. As it is merely a calm before the storm! From tomorrow onwards we are in for a super solid round of swell! If you check out the forecast from Coastalwatch then you will get an idea of what we're in for.
It's going to blow hard today from about lunchtime onwards so be prepared. A severe weather warning has been issued, so try not to park the Datsun 1200 under a tree today or she might just get crumpled!
I headed around to Clovelly this morning to bring you something different on this flat tac morning. There were only a few brave souls in the water throwing their arms over to start the day. While there may have only been a few humans in the big blue, there were certainly many barnacled giants on the horizon. Happy whale spotting! Brad

Good morning Frothers! It was a beauty of a sunrise this morning and I got a little carried away trying to capture it for you. Luckily the sunrise was special, because the surf conditions today are not. It is a little lack luster, but while the sun's shining you should at least get down their for a swim!
The surf is looking to pick up on Wednesday with a new south swell and WSW winds – so stay tuned.
A big congrats goes to Maroubra's Paul Moffat who was crowned this year's over 35 men's champion at the NSW title's last week. He scored a perfect 10 for one of his ride's. Check out the article link on our homepage for more.
Enjoy your day, Brad.
