Update 11th September 2012

The clouds rolled in this morning for the first time in a week or so. As much as I like the clear skies, it gets a little boring day after day, especially when trying to shoot a landscape photo before or during the sunrise. Cloud, as long as there is not too much, makes for great colours in the sky.

The surf has been pumping the last few days with Bondi being the spot. The swell has a 16 second period today, so we should be in for another good day or two of surf action for all you frothers.

Speaking of frothing. World renowned surf movie maker, Tim Bonython is bringing his award winning film Immersion – The Movie ‘The Re-Edit’ presented by Frothers, back to the East for two special showings. The first at North Bondi RSL on the 4th October at 8pm. The second at Randwick Ritz on the 14th October at 4:15pm.

The movie now includes the best ‘big wave paddle in session’ of all time at Cloudbreak in Fiji this year and it also contains Chris Bryan’s amazing slow motion Phantom camera footage of giant Teahupoo.

I wouldn’t miss this one boys and girls. It’s going to be off the hook! Check out the trailer HERE and see for yourself. For tickets, click HERE.

Update 10th September 2012

I have a bit of a mixed bag for you on this fine morning. The swell is right up, the sun is out and it looks set to be yet another great day.

So the swell is romping in at about 5ft on the sets. It's from the south and has cleaned up a treat. Bondi looked fun but a bit of challenge at the same time. Most waves were big closeouts. The middy sized ones are best or even better get in the car and go searching!

I shot the Waverley Council Lifeguard team photo this morning. These are the boys in blue that will be looking after you in the water this summer. You know – when you snap a legrope on a big NE swell Tama and you suddenly realize you should be able to swim more than 50m in the pool. These guys will have your back and get you out of trouble.

How fun was the "Festival of the Winds" yesterday. Once you found a car park that is!

Got to run – Surf is pumping!

Update 7th September 2012

It‘s 5:05 a.m. as my iPhone blares its alarm. The pleasant little dream I was having is shattered and as I throw the covers off and climb out of bed, I'm wishing daylight saving time would hurry up and arrive. It’s all relative of course and I could just go to bed earlier but that won’t happen. Life is way too busy.

As I walk out the front door, another clean sky of twilight hovers above the houses in Sydney's east. The days are getting longer as Spring creeps towards summer and I will have to keep setting my alarm earlier if I wish to make that magic photo happen in time before sunrise.

Still tiny on the wave front, folks. Maroubra had a little ridable bump early but it will hardly be breaking by the lunchtime high tide. Maybe try the late one if you need to catch a wave.

Have you heard of John John Florence? The amazing 19 year old that charges massive Pipeline and Cloudbreak. He is also taking the professional surfing world by storm. Here is a little snippet from a story on his mom, or 'Mom John' as she is known. This lady raised him and his younger brother single handedly and is the reason behind his success. Click HERE for a read on this amazing woman.

Our Bronte gallery, at 145c Macpherson Street is open today and all weekend. While you’re getting your Iggies bread and a brew, pop in and check us out. I think you will like what you see.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Update 6th September 2012

Drum roll please…. We have a special update for you today featuring one of our casual contributors, Dave Campbell. During the week we bring you a report each day, and the photography duties are shared between Brad, Bill and Franck. But, today, Brad is back at school, Bill is at the fire station and Franck is days away from marrying the girl of his dreams in France. Luckily for us, we also have a talented bunch of casual contributors who help make up the Frothers Team. Today, Dave Campbell, is sharing some of his recent images of our local beaches with you. He's a talented guy and we love the way he captures the beauty of Sydney's East.

For more of Dave's images click here

The strong winds from overnight have not done much to build up the surf. But, as I walked the prom this morning, I did cop a gobful of sand that the wind whipped off the beach – be careful out there. If you're desperate for a surf, Maroubra may have a small weak wave worth trying.

Try to get out of the wind and enjoy this amazing sunshine. And, if you're in the area pop into our gallery and see some of Dave's work that we have up on display.

Cheers, Christie

Update 5th Sepetmeber, 2012

Good morning Frothers! I'm writing today's update for Brad as he has headed back to school this week. He's studying up for his Coxswains – but don't get into a conversation with him about it, or he'll start yammering about bilge pump valves and engine smoke signals.

As you can imagine, Brad was running about like a headless chook this morning, trying to snap something to brighten your inboxes, without being late for roll call. Last time he was shooting in a rush he turned his water housing into a fish bowl. Today, the damage wasn't as bad. But he did punch something about 250th into his camera. I know nothing of shutter speeds and f-stops, however I think this mistake, a slow shutter speed, makes for a soft surf shot. If I've lost you, don't worry – I'm a bit lost myself. Just sick back and enjoy the ride.

The beach is picture perfect this morning. If you have the morning off today you're a lucky duck! Grab the longboard and get wet!

Cheers, Christie
