It was a hard one shooting down there this morning. Cold, wet and windy. The sunrise provided only a glimmer of hope of better weather today but to no avail. I was going to have a swim with the camera but as soon as someone filled me in on the water temp of 16 degrees I quickly dismissed that idea. The 2/2 short arm isn't cutting the mustard anymore. There's waves but it looks to have lost its punch. The left in the south corner of Bondi is still the pick but there is a few more options developing towards middle.
We are in for a crappy weekend weather wise. Onshore wind howling from the south east stirring up the pond. Make a trip to either Manly or a protected reef break about an 1 hr south. Could be a bit of all right if you land at the right spot.
It's my old mans Birthday today. His name is Ian and is as ocka Aussie as they come. He's well into retirement and loving life travelling overseas – (spending all our inheritance! Haha) His first trip O/S was only last year – Have a great day Papa Smurf!
Have a look HERE to see what the waves can be like in Japan every now and then. Amazing!
The gallery is open all weekend right next door to the best bread shop in the world "Iggy's" – 145C Macpherson St Bronte

The forecast was for the showers to ease this morning, but I didn't expect to see so much sunshine. It sure was a good surprise. Not a picture perfect morning, with a bit of dark cloud hovering around but who's complaining? We have waves in the 3-4ft range and the winds are offshore out of the NW.
Due to there being 2 swell directions in the mix today (SE & NE) I thought it would be a good idea to suss Maroubra. At 7am there weren't too many people out in the lineup. Things were pretty unorganised and shifty but there was the odd right hander if you were in the right position.
Back to Bondi and things seemed to be a little slow down there also. Really shifty and alot of waves just not hitting the bank properly. However as the morning progressed things cleaned up a little and if you picked the right waves, there were some fun walls to be had. Jarrah Tutton and Luke Kennedy made the most of it and showed everyone that there were some diamonds in amongst the rough.
That's a wrap on this morning, hopefully you can get your wave fix for the day.
Have a good one – Nick Sheffield

Warm and windless on first light this morning with thick dark clouds once again surrounding the horizon. Driving down Bondi Road you could tell the swell was up even before reaching the beach with dark grey lines quite visible over the buildings and out to sea.
Swell period is up on yesterday making for more waves in the sets and longer intervals between. It really isnt that great with most set waves closing out. The early pack of surfers were often being caught inside after drifting in to catch waves during the long lulls and the paddle back out looked quite hectic, unless you went from the south corner where the strong rip would suck you out past the Icebergs in no time.
Tomorrow should be better, a little smaller but cleaner with west winds all day. Friday looks ok too before a strong southerly change kicks in and a further jump in swell on the weekend. That could be a good time to hit the road and look for those protected south corners as the swell will be more east. Sunday looks quite solid. Things could change however so we'll let you know closer to the end of the week.
Have a great day and be careful out there.

It took a while for the sun to rise above the bank of gloomy clouds this morning making for a very grey and winter like start to the day. Surf conditions are ideal with only a light NW wind and 1 – 3ft of SE swell. Maroubra had some fun options with not too many folks out. Could be an option if your over battling the crowd on the bank at Bondi!
Monty Tate a young up and comer grommet from the Bra stood out this morning and its great to see how far his surfing has come in the past 12 months. Keep it up Monty!
Waves all week is what their saying! but with that comes a shower or two.
Check this video out! Published in yesterdays awesome Beast newsletter Photographer Andrew Goldie put together a superb wrap up of that last Bronte swell on his digital SLR.

Busy little bees everywhere at Bondi this morning. Trucks wizzing around, workmen disassembling City to Surf structures, cleaners emptying rubbish bins. This added in with the usual traffic of people and what they do early in Bondi each morning, appeared to make it look quite crowded. The surf on the other hand was not. Only small again today but with an incoming tide and a nice light westerly grooming the wave faces, it's quite fun and the keen half dozen surfers who put in the effort to rise early and pull on the steamer, were all rewarded with some nice little 2 foot peaks.
Winds should stay light and swing into the north east during the next couple of days, with another kick of south swell due Thursday. It definitely hasn't been a bad winter, wave wise and I don't think I've ever felt the water this warm at this time of year.
Have a great week everyone. See you in the lineup!
Cheers

Some mornings you just don't want to get out of bed. Listening to the wind howl between the houses outside, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty down at the beach.
Wet footpaths and a dark, patchy sky greeted me as I stepped from the car. A horrible southerly wind had sprung up over night, destroying what was left of the clean conditions we have been so fortunate to have for quite a while. Five very keen surfers dotted the lineup over the whole of Bondi. A stark difference to the last few days of packed conditions. Not too many runners around either. Maybe they are all resting up for the big race on Sunday. City to Surf is well and truly here again with the beach looking like tent city. Trucks and workmen are everywhere, feverishly putting together the finishing touches, while flashing road signs pulse warnings and restrictions at every main turn.
Tomorrow looks like your day for a weekend surf fix with winds swinging back off shore again but returning to southerly on Sunday for what is looking like being a wet race. Bondi will be the pick surf spot again with a small south swell running.
If you are a Bondi local and don't have a garage, hold onto your parking spot after Saturday afternoon and walk for a surf on Sunday. It will be City to Surf mayhem out there.
Our Gallery is open all weekend at 145 MacPherson Street, Bronte. Pop in and check us out if you're in the area.
Have a great weekend!
