Update 12th October 2012

Did someone flick the switch on Spring? Weird October snow falls in Adelaide, the Blue Mountains, even Goulburn is snowing for the first time in 10 years and it certainly felt like the thermometer was reading three fifths of bugger all when I walked out the front door this morning.

I somehow avoided the rain while cruising around the beaches while a dark and ominous sky filled in from the south, eventually turning everything black. It made for some interesting landscapes and I much prefer these conditions to shoot than a clear canvas of blue.

Don’t forget that there are two big surf movies showing over this weekend starting with a special screening of Storm Surfers tonight at 7:00pm at Bondi Junction Cinemas. Click HERE for details.

Tim Bonython’s re-edited ‘Immersion’ with all the huge Cloudbreak and Teahupoo footage is playing at the Randwick Ritz on Sunday afternoon at 4:15pm. Click HERE for details.

Also, before I go, today is the 10 year anniversary of the Bali bombings. The final Chloe Byron Memorial surf comp will be held at Bondi this Sunday in her memory. So if you are in the area come down and get involved.

Up-date 11th October 2012

It's wet…but not wild. Surf is ok, but not good. It's Spring, but it's deceiving. I am actually surprised that i can bring back a bikini shot today! Or maybe she was trialing an innovative material: transparent neoprene. That innovation could get the big brands out of trouble !

Brad said yesterday "Settled…", talking about the weather. I love the guy, but he's been overselling it ! He was obviously not the one in the rain today, juggling with a camera, a brolly, and a tripod…He was probably enjoying the warmth of the bed, like most of the Eastern Beaches-siders. Not much action this morning down the beach: a few joggers, some scattered active-walkers, and just a few surfers.

We should not expect stable weather and warm temperatures before Monday.

However, tomorrow could be a surprising one: massive SE swell surge, moderate westerlies, and hopefully some golden light. I would probably bet on Manly to get the best conditions though…Let's see !

Find the sun in your hearts today !

Update 10th October 2012

The weather has settled and it's all back to normal down at the beach. The sun is doing its best to brighten our day. Wind ain't too bad either. NW and grooming the 3 ft leftover SSE swell just nicely. Bondi has a few waves but the banks are being a little bit weirdo. There is a left in the corner every now and then but mostly wonky tonk. High tide might be the way to go.

Jose Marquina (pictured) is one of our best local bodyboarders. We go way back and use to catch the school bus together when we were groms.  He's riding a glass board these days and having a ball. Click HERE to see what he can do on an esky lid. Simply amazing!

There is another screening of "Storm Surfers 3D" at Event Cinema at Bondi Junction this Friday night. Starts at 7pm. Book tickets online HERE

Enjoy the day – Brad

Update 9th October 2012

The internet lies! Before I went to bed last night this mornings forecast was saying 1.5m at 11 sec with very light WSW winds. In other words it was looking quite good. The reality was a terribly junky onshore ocean which was offering nothing really worthy, except a chance to hang out with this season's first batch of bluebottles!

I spent the early hours mostly cowering in the lifeguard room at Bronte, as mini rain squalls blew across an empty beach.

Rob Bruns turned up with his band of 'before school surfing' groms, otherwise it would have remained an empty lineup.

Tim Bonython's 'Immersion' movie went down big at the Rat House the other night, where one very lucky lady walked away with the Frothers Gallery major prize – a huge acrylic mounted image ready to hang on her wall and she looked pretty happy about it.

If you haven't seen 'Immersion, The Movie', it's on again at the Randwick Ritz this Sunday afternoon at 4:15. Get tickets HERE.

Update 8th October 2012

Welcome to yet another Monday. I have found myself on the northside today so I thought why not call into Manly for the early and see what was going down. It's a different world over here compared to the eastside today. My guess is that it still probably looks like a dog's breakfast back at Bondi. Over here I am enjoying the sun and the sheltered water as I sip on my latte writing this report from a park bench on the beach.

By no means is it pumping over here but it is shoulder high and the occasional one will stand up and give you a good ride. If you can't get over here hold out for the afternoon session as the swell is on the decrease and wind should ease making the eastside a little bit more manageable.

Enjoy your day – Brad
