Concrete Wave

Hi Frothers !

The Bowl-A-Rama is just ’round the corner, and the Bondi concrete wave has some serious sliders right now. I went down for a pre-dinner surf check. ”Darling, I’ll going for a quick surf-check” ”Alright, but dinner is almost ready…”. ”I’ll be back in 5. I promise!”.

The surf did not get my attention, driving down Campbell Parade, but the crowd down at the skate-park caught my eyes. I happened to have the camera gear with me in the car, so I reckoned I’d go have a ”quick” look. 1 hour later, I was still laying low on the side of the bowl, mesmerised by the speed, the height and style of some of those riders.

Dinner was cold…

Have a great day.

Bondi Colours

Hi Frothers !

A very quick up-date today, just to give you a taste of this morning. Whilst in a middle of a photo-shoot for SurfAid, I managed to steal a few snaps of colours in the sky of Lake Bondi. I could not resist.

I can’t tell you how happy it made me to feel the warmth of a Bondi Summer morning. Soon, I will be shooting pictures by -30, sometimes -40 degrees, in the North Pole. In the sleeping quarter of the boat where my base camp will be, It will be -4 degrees. It makes me VERY appreciative of a warm morning like today.

Thanks to the incredible folks at Patagonia, I’ll be kept warm. One less thing to worry about.

Have a great day.

Lucky Day

Hi Frothers !

Today was my first day in a while behind the camera at sunrise, and this Friday 13th has been my lucky day: what a sky!

Busy, fun, colourful, warm. This morning started like the typical perfect Summer day….before those clouds invited themselves to the party. Dear Grey Clouds, you were NOT on the guests list!

I am sorry for the lack of up-dates in the last week or so. I am about to embark in a crazy photographic adventure that requires a lot of preparation work. I’ll tell you more about it next week. One thing I can tell you: it’s going to be cold. Very cold. Extremely cold. To tell you the truth, I don’t think there are any colder places on Earth (for those trying to guess, this last clue should narrow the number of options right down).

I will tell you more very soon.

Have a great day, and mark Sunday as ”Beach Day” in your agenda.

Bad weather – Great photos

Hi Frothers !

Rather than showing you average picture of really average weather in Sydney (grey, small, onshore, with a deserted beach), we’ve chosen you show you great pictures of bad weather, like Brad Malyon knows how to do.

After a burst of Summer weather, with waves (Saturday), we’re back to July conditions again. ”Summer?!….Hellooooo?! Summer?!….Where have you gone?! Come back please! We’re not done with you yet…”

Things should improve a bit, especially Wednesday: it should be a perfect day to enjoy a night out at the surf night at the Bondi Open Air Cinema, screening ”Spirit of Akasha”.

The Frothers Gallery & the Bondi Open Air Cinema have partnered up for that night and we are organizing an Instagram Photo Contest. The winner will win a Frothers 60x90cm frame, and the runner-up will be taking home a 60x90cm high quality print.

The rules are simple:

  • follow @frothersgallery on Instagram
  • upload your best ocean or surf-inspired image before Wednesday 7pm Sydney time
  • the shots need to have been taken by you, no restriction as to which camera gear was used
  • tag #frotherscontest & @frothersgallery
  • be there on the night at the Bondi Open Air Cinema

The Frothers Team will be judging the winning shot.

If you want to join Patrizio and Dave, who already won their tix, we still have a double-pass to give-away for the Frothers’ subscribers, thanks to the folks at Bondi Open Air Cinema. Who can answer the following question the fastest: what famous surf movie does ”Spirit of Akasha” aims at celebrating ?

Good luck!

Nikon Surf Photo Award

Hi Frothers !

I can thank my father’s interest in photography for my 30plus year passion, even though I only turned into my professional career 4 years ago.

Originally from Bondi and now living on the Far North NSW Coast, in what I consider my little piece of paradise I find myself spoilt with a selection of beaches which allows me to pursue the shorebreakers for that illusive perfect wave.I love to capture the individual personalities of the micro wave, the smaller the better!

So after many hours in the water in pursuit of that perfect shot you can imagine my delight to receive news from Surfing Australia that I have made the finals for the Nikon Surf Photo Awards putting me into a line up of Australia’s Top Surf photographers. The last two years I have made the finals, being the only female to do so which makes it all the more special. Actually this is one of those Awards that humbles me, whether it be that I have made an imprint in a fairly male dominated industry or that my images are up against Australia’s best Surf photographers, it leaves me feeling very humbled and proud.

So on the 12th of Feb at Surfing Australia’s presentation night held in Sydney the winner will be announced, for me I feel I have already won with just making the grade!

Wish me luck!

Oh, I almost forgot: wanna win a double-pass for the ”Spirit of Akasha” at the Bondi Open Air Cinema on 11th February ? Be the first to answer this simple question by replying to this email: who, of all the Frothers photographers, has got the largest number of Instagram followers ?

…and since you’re there looking for the answer, give them all a follow…:)
