Update 17th July 2013

Once the early morning clouds departed I was out there with the housing on the best little bank at Bondi. A long running waist high right hander just off 2nd ramp which is very much suited to a log and good times. Only a handful of dudes were on it making it todays little hidden treasure.

As you can see it's an amazing day out there. The water isn't as cold as you would expect for this time of year. The big toe tells me somewhere in the 17 – 18 degrees mark. Nothing to stress out about that's for sure. Not much wind either – Just happy sunny rays and superglassy waist high walls.

I'll be logging today – Hope to see you out there!

Update 16th July 2013

Shiny wet roads leading to the beach this morning. It’s grey and overcast again, without a breath of wind.

With the layer of low cloud trapping what warmth there is for this time of year, it was actually quite pleasant wandering around the shore this morning. It also made it easy to strip, half naked, while pulling on a wetsuit.

The water isn’t cold but with this nor’easter predicted we might see a drop over the next day or two.

Not much swell to speak of. The increase in period on the chart did nothing to bring it up today. Bondi is probably the biggest if you’re looking for a grovel.

Up-date 15th July 2013

What a weekend ! And comes Monday: rain and clouds, making back-to-work a little less painful. I like that.

Today is wam though, 15 degrees at 6:30am and we're gonna be on or above the 20 degrees mark pretty much all week.

Nothing much at the beach today that I can report: very few people in the water, Mark Tipple cruising aroung, Amaury celebrating his 2'000s, a few yogis on the South Corner, some happy staffies, a few long beards, a lot of Lattes….just normal life in Bondi !

Have a nice day.

Update 12th July 2013

I always wondered if any surfing went down this far north. You never see any. I’ve heard stories of a local riding the croc infested inlet point when the strong SE winds whip up a swell but that’s about it. Yesterday, driving back along the coast from Cairns at dusk, my eyes almost fell out when I spied a grom walking along the beach with a short board under his arm! The waves were around a foot, clean and definitely rideable. Question answered.

The winter school holidays are finally coming to end and so is my Far North family adventure. I call it an adventure, because that’s what it is! We’re been pretty much on the move every morning, visiting a crocodile farm, climbing through a rain forest or riding a 100 year old train through mountain gorge. It’s been a very full 2 weeks.

Our base has been Port Douglas and I can’t leave without giving the place a plug because honestly, it deserves it. In many ways it resembles an old Byron Bay. It has a charm and sophistication you don’t find at every coastal town. It also has some amazing restaurants and that’s always a plus for a holiday destination.

Time to head back to the cold and hopefully some surf and that’s probably the only reason that I couldn’t live in beautiful place like this.

Have a great weekend! See you in the surf.

Update 11th July 2013

Bondi was running all nice and smoothly at about 3ft for the early today. The conditions were ideal, which made me all frothed up to hit the water. There were some cheeky dolphins patrolling the line up early and a great sand bank that was good for close out water shots.

There wasn't many options for surfers. Only the left down in the south corner. The rest of the beach is shutting down on a very hard and straight bank. On my way home I saw some fun ones at Tama and Bronte. Maroubra would be a good option too.

Enjoy the rest of this sunny day!
