Selamat Pagi (Good Morning) from Uluwatu in Bali. It's always nice to get away and for me Bali is like my second home. I am not exactly sure, but I must have clocked up over 20 trips to this beautiful island over the last 15 years. Can you blame me? Guaranteed swell and world class waves pretty much all year round.
So, I have bunkered down on the Bukit Peninsula for a 10-day trip. The main peak at Ulus has been small but fun. It's my favorite little section at Ulus and I seem to have developed a knack for getting waves out there even when it's crowded. Honestly, these days there is easily anywhere from 50 – 100 people in the water at any one time. I hope that good luck keeps rolling for me!
I hope you guys scored a few for yourself yesterday at home. Gee it looked good. Maybe a few more today?

Finally the swell has arrived!
It’s got size, power, and the East facing beaches should have plenty today! It’s not the cleanest, but it’s clean enough. If you navigate through the close-outs and pick the right ones, you might be surprised how good those waves can be. I witnessed a few barrels, for several seconds, ….shhhhhhh and out!
It’s also a great day to watch some nice wipe-outs, if you’re not keen to go out. There are some pretty spectacular stunts happening, I can tell you that for free! Talking about wipe-outs, you can now vote for the Billabong XXL Wipeout nominees. Click on this link and see the 5 candidates…and feel the pain!
The weather might not be at its best right now, but it has offered some pretty amazing sunrises, lightning and storm fronts lately. If you want to check out a few of those storm shots, go and check out our Frothers Facebook page or have a look on my Insti (@franckgazzola). Share if you like !

I snapped an iphone image of North Bondi at sunset on Sunday afternoon and posted it to my instagram. I stated that the glorious summer weather we have been blessed with this first half of April was finally over. The way it’s looking now, I may be on the money.
It was cold, dark and wet as I headed for the beach this morning. That doesn’t faze me and I had plans to still head south to shoot the predicted solid surf at Cape Solander in Kurnell but after a quick check of the conditions at Bronte, I knew it wasn’t going to happen today.
I hate being pessimistic but the surf continues to be a disastrous disappointment of late. Internet predicted swell events have crumbled before our very eyes so often since the beginning of the year and with the last two day looking like being the ones we were finally due for, only to be denied once more, it’s kind of starting to hurt. This time of year is usually the best so I’m sure if you’re a surfer who enjoys a proper wave, you’re definitely feeling it too. Must keep the chin up, because like I said in my last report, that surfed out feeling we are all craving could still be just around the corner.
Pure Blonde are running a great competition at the moment, all you have to do to go in the running is upload an image of ‘A Rare Moment of Purity’. Check it out HERE.
Cheers!

Warning notice: those pictures are deceptive!
The weather has already shifted…As I am typing, the clouds have already taken over. Get used to them, they’ll be sticking around for the next 5 days or so, together with the fresh Southerly. A massive shift when compared to yesterday: Summer in April! I hope you enjoyed it, soaking up the maximum amount of Vitamin D before Autumn really kicks in.
There are quite some waves to be surfed out there. Bondi has some, but the biggest ones are tending to close out. The smaller guys offer a bit of opened shoulders…but you’ll have to fit your way through with 5 other guys on each wave, regardless on how deep inside you take-off. Irritating… As I left to run to work, Tama was the pick (peak?) of the day at the time. Some good solid clean faced ones, with occasionally a left/right option…and a much much more civilized crowd.
This weekend, I brought you some shots of the Komunity Comp in Manly. Slater & co. were battling in one mushy foot of wave. Well look at what Kelly was up to, just the day before, in pumping Shipsterns, Tasmania. Unreal! Watch out for the wipeouts– you’ll probably feel for those guys…Just watching the video, I felt like I was drowning…
Take a look at Pure Blonde's latest online competition HERE and have a great day!

How about having some of the best all time surfers in one place ? Simon Anderson, Occy, Tom Carroll (N#1 Frother in the World !!), Owen Wright, Jesse Pollock, etc…and…the Kelly ''The King'' ''K11'' Slater.
Then, add a few of the Waratahs players. Stir with a bog dose of sun, sand, warm water. Add a big pinch of good vibes, smiles and generosity. Shake it, shake it: you'll get the best recipe for a great fund raising event !
Yesterday was the Komunity Project Comp, to raise awareness about suicide, especially targetting young(er) folks. A great initiative led by Komunity.
The only thing missing really was bigger waves. Still, what those guys can do in mushy onshore one footer is amazing. They're in a different league…
The even is now over, but you can still donate. Anything is welcome:
Acct name: SURFERS AGAINST SUICIDE
BSB: 012964
Acct #: 2668-08891
Swift: ANZBAU3M
It's a great cause…and tax deductible. Go for it !
Special thanks to Paul Munten for his support to Frothers to allow us to bring you some shots of that day.
There are really really nice waves out there on our beaches. The sun is shining like there's no tomorrow. Get the towel, the boards, and spend the day at the beach: you won't regret it !
Cheers,
Franck
