Update 12th April 2013

Perfection –  is the only way I can describe the weather in Sydney today. It's as good as it gets. Not a breath of wind, blue skies and 24 degrees in the water. Can't ask for much more than that. Except of course a few waves. Gee wouldn't that be a good combo. You might just have to settle for a swim instead. Coogee beach was looking pretty damn fine this morning that's for sure.

Get ready for a weekend at the beach because the outlook is shaping up to be nothing short of excellent. You may be leaving the board at home though. Take a book instead.

So you know Kelly Slater is in town right! His Kommunity project along with Occy, Owen Wright and the biggest frother of them all Tom Carroll will be teaming up with players from the Waratah's and local celebs to help raise money for the charity "Surfers against Suicide" The event is at Manly beach tomorrow and starts at 10am and will run through to 2pm. I'll be reporting from Bali next week. I need my Uluwatu fix for the year! – Brad 😉

Update 11th April 2013

My first morning update since we changed the clock and I must say, I prefer daylight saving time. Not so much because it’s an earlier start but more because I like the later finish. We are all different (thank God) and I’m sure many prefer conventional EST.

It’s going to be another stunner out there again today with temps in the high 20’s and blazing sunshine. You have to love this time of year, with days like these and summer water temps to match.

On the wave front we are still suffering dismally, with the ocean doing it’s best to mess with the heads of surfers who are becoming frustrated with a time of year that is usually renowned for pumping surf. You have to remain optimistic and keep chanting “IT’S COMING”!!!

Get wet and have a great day!

Billy

Frothers Update Wednesday 10th April 2013

This is my final report coming at you from the Playgrounds in the Mentawais.

What a trip! The boys have been frothing hard and surfing from sunrise to sunset. Derek Recio takes the prize of 'Ultimate Frother' for the most surfs and the most waves. Derek flying across the face, on his 5/6'' flying saucer fish, has become a common sight. The other kind of fish were less common. In fact, the only fish that made it on board was a flying fish that kooked its landing and touched down on our boat, (below edible size, sadly).

Our last surf of the trip was a super fun session at 4 Bobs, named after Robert De Castella who got four barrels here on his first wave. It's a rolling right that comes out of deep water and then bends down a shallow reef. The boys, Day 12, were tired but all surfing well as we head back for an overnight crossing to Padang.

A big thanks to all the crew at Sumatran Surfaris and our sturdy ship the Southern Cross. We've all had such an amazing trip and it was just what a bunch of Eastern Suburbs wave-starved frothers needed.

With the great help from TC Communications I am so stoked that I could keep you all up to date with our Boy's Froth Trip away to the Mentawai Islands, in Indonesia, via satellite.

See ya's all in the hood on Friday – What's the surf like anyway?

Cheers Brad 😉

Up-date 9th April 2013

It's been a while since the sunrise has been so changing and spectacular !

Great contrast in the sky, thousand colours in the clouds, structures and shapes,…and then the rain.

I must say It was a bit of a fight with the umbrella, the gear, the bag,…to take the shots, but what a pleasure to have witnessed that.

Now, the downside is: it's still flat as. Not a bump in the water. Nothing. Nill. Rien du tout. Peau de zob….and nothing on the horizon as well. Maybe a bit of an increase towards the weekend, from the E-NE. Wait and see !

But there is a good news this week: the King is gonna be in town. Yes, you read well: THE King is gonna be in town !!…and so will Owen Wright, Occy, Simon Anderson, Taylor Wright or Tom Carrol. They're all here for the Komunity Project Comp, in Manly, on Saturday 13th April. You should go check it out. Not only la creme de la creme of surfing will be there, but they'll be competing with some of the key Waratahs players ! A great fund raising event where they need your support.

Of course, Frothers will be there to bring you the best shots of the day. Stay tuned to it ! And if you see us on the beach, come and say g'day ! Let's all pray for some waves…

Have a nice day !

Franck

Update Monday 8th April 2013

G'day again from the Mentawai Islands.

Bad weather has had us trapped for the past two days, so today's first surf back saw froth levels sky rocketing. A tasteful righhander, named  Bintangs, was our saviour. Why Bintangs? Because nothing beats pouring a cold can of pilsner through the hole in your beard after a great day surfing here.

I'd never had the chance to surf this place before. Wow, I'm glad I have now. A super playful ride that throws a lip every wave – it's almost impossible not to find some shade out there. The boys and I were still frothing when imagine who floats into the line up? Another boat with another bunch of local crew from back home. Mark Maguire and his son Jake had already scored a couple of super fun sessions at Rifles, Pussys and Bintangs. Mark though, still claims Bronte Reef's his favourite wave on earth. Mark?

And, of course, we finished our great day surfing with the boys by dutifully draining a few Bintangs on sunset, reminding me that absolutely nothing beats an Indo boat trip with your best mates. See you for one more Mentawais update later in the week, thanks to TC Communications. Yew – Brad
