There were two blondes sitting on the beach at Bondi this morning talking to each other about the total Solar Eclipse happening in Cairns, and one says to the other, “Which do you think is further away… the moon or Cairns?” The other blonde turns and says “Helloooooo, can you see Cairns?”

Fortunately, it ended up being clear enough up there for a decent viewing for all the people who risked traveling there from near and far to see it. Always a gamble I guess. We got totally skunked down here for our partial eclipse viewing with the heavy cloud cover upon us today. The next total eclipse for Sydney will be in 2028 and then there won’t be one for 830 years.

There are still a few junky waves around for the keen. Bondi has a few lumpy bumpies in the corner and the water has actually come up to a balmy 18c again so if you’re a Pommie backpacker, it’s boardies all the way. For the rest of us, stay in your 3/2 full suit while the cloud hangs around.
