Update 9th January 2013

It is certainly a different day out there today after yesterday’s blister buster. The southerly moved through sometime after midnight, bringing back the ocean’s cool sea breeze to relieve us from yesterday's heat.

The wind and temperature change didn't stop people coming down for an early dip again this morning. The sea is still warm but a mess, not only choppy from the wind but the amount of rubbish on the shoreline is horrendous! At Bronte this morning there were so many plastic bottles littering the shore that I thought I was back in Bali! Obviously they were all blown out to sea by the westerly yesterday and all returning in the southerly this morning. I also counted 2 bodyboards, 4 towels and 7 thongs, not the ones the girls wear (or some guys) but the foot type, all washing around in the shorebreak. There was also a two seater lounge! But I doubt that was washed in. The amount of empty beer bottles lying around too is a joke. If you come to our beautiful beaches, clean up your crap when you leave!!

There aren’t too many waves around again but it is slightly bigger. It may just be the onshore wind making it break but it’s definitely more rideable than it was yesterday.

Have a good one!

Update 8th January 2013

The big red Sun rose above the ocean early like a freshly lit furnace, casting its fiery glow across our beaches, lighting up the city and beyond. Later today is predicted to be a heat wave as the north westerly wind freshens, dragging dry, inland heat over the coast. The forecast is for 43 degrees but the early morning was beautiful and only in the md 20’s. The water temp is also amazingly warm finally at around 23c.

It’s not often we experience extreme temperatures on the coast, regular onshore Summer winds blow the ocean’s coolness straight into our faces most of the time. It’s not expected to break the Jan 14, 1939 record of 45.3 or the 44.2 New Years Day, 2006 scorcher, but it could be in good company if it does hit the 40’s. It’s just a shame we don’t have waves because with this N-W wind, it definitely would be barreling!

Now if I told you the Sun is the reason we get waves at all you’d probably say, “why isn’t it pumping then”. Well, it doesn’t actually work directly but it is responsible. Click HERE and see why.

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and try to stay out of the heat as much as possible. The ocean can help if you can get to the beach but don’t forget to slip, slop, slap and maybe even a beach umbrella. It's actually raining at Cronulla right now but when the wind hits later the 'big blue' should return.

Be cool !

Update 7th January 2012

Welcome back to the Froth for 2013. We've had a good little break and more than anything we hope you did too. Now – it's time to get back to business with the daily surf reports and funky frothing images.

Unexpectedly, due to the fantastic run of weather we've had, some dark looking clouds covered the morning sky threatening to release buckets of rain our way. Somehow we were spared and dodged a dreary Monday morning. The air temp is still expected to reach 27 degrees which tells me that the clouds may part and burn off.

Don't expect much on the wave front. That pulse from the ENE we had late yesterday has all but disappeared and all that is left is onshore knee cappers. Not too enticing at all. Have a swim this arvo after work. That's your best bet!

Enjoy the day and welcome back to work! ;( Brad

Update 1st January 2013

All the ingredients were there today for the perfect day at the beach: day off for (almost) everyone, blue skies, 30 degrees, calm sea, and a lot of tiny bikinis.

And then the siren went off. ''EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER ! EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER !''.

A teethy fishy had been spotted. In just a few seconds, there was not a soul in the water anymore. All the beach stood up, trying to spot a fin, or a darker stain under the surface. One guy struggled to swim back. He knew he was the only one left, the ideal bait. It seemed like everyone felt for this guy. When he reached the shore, he got himself his share of cheering and clapping.

No one got hurt. A few minutes later, swimmers and surfers were back in the blue waters.

The Frothers' team wanted to wish you all a happy new year 2013. We hope it's going to be a healthy one, full of surf, of trips, of friends and family, of laughters and happiness. The Frothers team's resolution for the new year: never miss a sunrise this year again, and always bring you better shots everyday. We will be starting our daily reports again from Monday 7th January.

Until then, have fun and enjoy Summer: the week ahead looks perfect !

Portez-vous bien !
