Update 3rd August 2012

Don't be discouraged by the crowd in the water today: you'll get waves ! Actually, in Bronte and Tama, there were more waves unsurfed than being surfed. The size is down a bit and all the beaches cope quite well with the swell size and direction, despite a few odd sets.

Waves are coming in constantly, the frequency of the sets is high, the wind is super light, and there is a good 4ft. It's like a well-tuned wave machine ! What else can we ask for ?…

This week-end looks really promising, which means it's probably going to be packed at the line-up. You'd better drive North or South to get waves for you and your mates only. Otherwise, be prepared to feel like you're in a mall on a Saturday afternoon, trying to slalom your way through!

Enjoy this nice winter day outside if you can. If you can't, well TGIF: just a few more hours to go !

If you are wandering around under the sun this week-end, come and see us at the Frothers Gallery in Bronte, 145c MacPherson Street in Bronte !

Have a nice week-end

Franck

Update 2nd August 2012

The mornings and afternoons of late have been extreme. The cold has been bitter as this stiff SSW wind batters the coast. The swell has also been huge due the intense low spinning off the coast but the colours in the sky, especially at sunset, have been amazing and bordering on psychedelic. The horizon has been filled with pastel coloured rain clouds, producing the occasional giant rainbow stretching across the sky.

There will be no shortage of waves for the next few days but you may need to travel and find a point or sheltered corner again today, as its still quite solid, even though it has dropped a fair bit on yesterday.

Enjoy!

Update 1st July 2012

The last official month of winter has finally begun. It was 5 degrees at Sydney Airport yesterday at lunchtime and today won’t be much warmer. The one plus is that the water isn’t as cold as it was a couple of weeks ago, in fact, it’s pretty warm for this time of year. I hope it lasts but doubt that it will.

La Nina is still living up to it’s name this year, with another new low pressure intensifying off the coast. There are some huge waves coming through on the open beaches right now. It should peak tonight as the swell direction swings more east. The winds will also calm down tomorrow and remain westerly into the weekend. So all in all, it’s looking real good if you’re a surfer over the next few days. I'm off south to find something ridable today, so have left you with a few shots from last night at Bronte.

The big wave ‘paddle in’ craze is still going viral amongst the pro’s. This time it’s those crazy Tassie boys who are messing with that Shipsterns monster, without a jetski. Check out how sweet Marti Paradisis rides this wave. From his hard stroke in to get over the edge of the slab, followed by his late bottom turn to negotiate that evil step. Perfect technique. Update 30th July 2012

This update is coming to you from a sleepy town named Gocek in Turkey. I arrived here yesterday for my real job (drivin a boat) after 24 hrs worth of flights, taxis and coffee. I was instantly hit by the blistering heat that this part of the world is renowned for at this time of year. I dropped the bags off – changed into a pair of boardies and whacked on a trusty pair of havianas, then headed off with my camera to the nearest beach.

Gocek has some magnificent scenery of which I have only seen a little in the short time I've been here. It is famous for it's stunning turquoise coast and beautiful mountains and is why it is a favorite place for boat owners to visit. This coming Saturday we leave port for a week long journey along the coast to Bodrum. Might even have a quick pit stop at FalarakiRhodos for old times sake!

Looks like you have waves back home. More than here at least. Think yourselves lucky. Now I got to get back to anti-fouling the bottom of a boat!

Cheers – Brad

Update 26th July 2012

Warm winter mornings place a much nicer perspective on your start to the day, especially if there is a little colour in the sky and a few waves to take on. As a surfer, those two ingredients alone are all you need to make life worthwhile.

The surf has dropped and is not quite as clean due to the bump left over from the N-E wind yesterday. It is still around the 3 to 4 foot mark at Maroubra, Tamarama and Bronte and definitely worth a getting wet for.

Have you noticed how good the videos are these days? How the quality of the latest hi speed cameras are producing such amazingly clear slow motion clips? It's a lot different to the old super 8 days. Film was fun though and I kind of miss it.

Here is a little clip of Kai Neville's new flick. Click HERE.
