Update 11th July 2012

To have a NE windswell roll into town at this time of year is quite unseasonal. It was a welcome surprise as I rolled down the hill to Bronte for the surf check. One look across the bay, I quickly realized that Tama was semi doin it! No where near the best I have seen Tama by no means (too much wobble) but the occasional wave would stand up on the sand bank and roll nicely all the way into Bronte. It was hitting the 3 – 4 ft mark early but it looked like it was backing off real quick. Get out there as soon as you can to make the most of it or plonk yourself down in a nice patch of sun. 20 degrees today!

Smaller waves tomorrow – Up again on Friday.

Update 10th July 2012

We have another lay day on our hands. Huey has flicked the switch off completely today! Only knee high longboard waves rolling into Bondi on that bank off 2nd ramp. It looked fun but you have to be riding the right craft. If your in the market for one like myself – Dreaming! why not hit up WAXA Longboardshandshaped masterpieces by Scott Robinson. Owning one will make you look very cool on the walk down from the car park to the waters edge!

The wind shifts to the NE later on today and will freshen hopefully sending a few bumps our way in the morning!

Update 9th July 2012

The sun is shining, the wind is blowing lightly from the west and there's a couple of little waves around this morning – about 2 ft. What more could you ask for? The mal riders were out in force and ruling the line up getting some really nice rides on the low tide while the folks on the shorter boards were struggling to get the momentum going. Surf a mal today you will have heaps more fun!

There was a masked bandit out there in the line up. I wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but I think he must be getting married really soon or he has lost a bet with a mate. Anyway, he seemed to be enjoying himself which is the main thing!

NE windswell for the rest of the week! Could be ok?

Update 6th July 2012

Domestic school holiday vacations have been rare for me over the last decade. I have been avoiding visiting my Mother-in-Law in Port Douglas, in Far North Queensland, when rest of my tribe have taken off without me. It's not that I don’t get on with my wife’s mother, in fact, quite the opposite. It’s just that (I thought) there were NO WAVES up there!

While Sydney is suffering it’s coldest day’s so far this winter, I have been cruising around The Daintree and the crocodile farms wearing just boardies and a tee. I'm not exactly missing the chill factor at home right now.

The one thing that has really surprised me, is that I found 'a rideable' wave up here. It’s not Hawaii but it’s 26c in and surprisingly surfable! I've been having  a ball riding a 12 foot stand up paddle board (without a paddle) in the one foot wind swell. There is actually a spot down the beach where you can get a one hundred meter ride! I even caught a few tandem waves with my teenage daughter, Olivia and that, for me, was very special. My surfing withdrawal has been temporarily cured!

Keep warm boys and girls. Enjoy your heaters and your 3/2 full suits. Hopefully I will bring you another report from cane toad territory next week before I come home.

Have a great weekend!

Billy
