If you were fortunate enough to be up and at it this morning I can bet that you have one big smile on your dial. What a morning! There is a 3 ft south swell in the water and perfect conditions. I couldn't resist a swim with the camera at Bondi and Sam Mc from STAB MAG turned it on boosting one for the lens on the right in the south corner. They were few and far between though and the rest of the beach was closing out most of the time. I suspect that once the water fills in a bit later, that it could turn on. Winds will shift to the NE as the day rolls on and the air temp is forecast to hit 22, however something tells me it will be hotter than that. No excuses get out there.
The Rip Curl Pro in Portugal has finished. They ran through all the heats and Adriano De Souza was victorious over 10 x World Champion Kelly Slater. De Souza moves into 3rd while Slater only needs a 9th place or better in the next comp to take the world title for the 11th time.

That nasty, howling southeast wind has disappeared, replaced by a nice clean off shore. That was on sunrise, anyway. It has already swung back to the ESE but it's still a much nicer looking ocean than yesterday, with some good waves at all of the beaches. There were loads of blueys piled along the shore but none were out in the lineup this morning.
Bondi has some over-head sets and with a lunch time high tide, I would say this will be the spot for a surf if you are keen to get wet.
It has been great sitting down to dinner the last couple of nights and watching pro surfers getting barreled off their head at Supertubes in Portugal, courtesy of Fuel TV on the big screen. My wife hasn't been too impressed but like the footy, I tell her "It's not forever Dear," ha ha!
Have a good one!

The month of October brings sadness to many Eastern Suburbs' locals, in particular the Byron family and friends. As the dreaded day of the 12th comes and goes, shrouded in grief, the light at the end is the annual Chloe Byron Longboard Comp. A wonderful day when the community joins each other to celebrate the lives of those who lost theirs in Bali, 2002. In particular, to remember the exuberant beautiful young lady, Chloe, who is dearly missed by many. While the day is mostly about bringing the community together there is also a surf comp. Jessie Miley-Dyer won the women's event, Robyn Stonefield blitzed the stand-up paddle and local larrikin Harries took out the men's event. Lots of money was raised for the Victims of Homicide charity and smiles were on everyone's faces – what a great day!
As for today, in one word the surf conditions are ugly. Unfortunately the swell has been ripped to shreds by the southerly but, the good news is, the swell has jumped to 3-4ft at south-facing Bondi. If your super keen try Bronte otherwise wait it out till tomorrow.
Have a great day – Brad

Fairly dismal is the kindest way to describe the beach today. The sky is dark, the wind is up and the surf is terrible. Maroubra would be your best option for a tiny, onshore grovel but you may be better off heading to the office to get something done. Wave wise, the weekend looks average as well. A Longboard looks like the go if you are keen to make the effort and surf. I am sure a lot of you will, because after all, most of us are surf junkies and its the liquid fix that we really crave.
Even if the surf is average, it is still Friday again and the weekend is here! Lately, they seem to roll around so quick that I wonder where the week days go! Time is what we want most, but so often what we use worst. I guess that depends what you use it for. I wish it could be all for leisure but the reality is certainly quite different for most of us here in the city.
Anyway, enjoy your weekend, make the most of that spare time because Monday will roll around quickly too. Our Bronte gallery is shut today but it will be open all weekend from 10am – 5pm.
Brad and I were unable to shoot this morning due to commitments, so today’s pics are a little selection of what you might come across if you drop in and see us at the shop over the weekend.
Have a good one.

Sunbeams broke through the overcast sky early this morning, revealing a somewhat average set up. There were plenty of waves rolling in though and occasionally a 3 ft set would wash through and unfortunately close out. The only hope was in the south corner at Bondi where a left was being ruled by young Bronte gun Tom Faddy. I think he won the heat this morning beating older bro Luke and old man Matt.
Some of you know that I was and am no longer a lifeguard. It's a little hard to deal with sometimes because I've been there since '99 and, although I've only been gone for a few months, I miss it. Especially the team environment and job satisfaction when you pull somebody out of the water. I ran into Azza Graham this morning while setting up the beach. One of the most respected lifeguards of Waverley he is also regarded by many as one of the East's best watermen. If you are ever stuck in a spot of bother and you see Azza paddling over – rest assured, you are in good hands!
On another note, Noah's Backpackers was the subject of an arson attempt last night. Some grumpy backpackers apparently trying to get one back. Hope there's some CCTV footage of them, endangering lives and damaging property, how dare they.
