Update 10th May 2013

You can’t really whine about a beautiful sunny Friday morning, especially if there are hardly any waves around. Tiny waves, why would you be happy about that? Well, it’s because they are exactly the perfect conditions the crew from ‘One Wave’ need.

Every Friday morning this happy bunch of humans get together before work to have a surf in the name of suicide prevention and mental health. Their aim is to give people who are having trouble, that magic feeling of what riding just ‘One Wave’ will do!

As most of us who surf know, even if we take it for granted most of the time, just going for a paddle and catching a few waves is all we usually need to relieve the stress of every day life. Surfing removes the negatives and shifts our thoughts into a better frame of mind.

Hats off ‘OneWave’, you guys rock!

Have a great weekend people.

Up-date 9th May 2013

It’s been a crazy couple of days in Namotu ! The forecasted swell came through, and gave us some spectacular moments of surfing.

In moments like these, it’s not only Namotu guests that get excited, but the entire surfing planet. A few big wave riders flew in just for today’s waves: Dane Ross, Chris Lougher from the Northern Beaches, or even Kohl Christensen.

Restaurant was firing yesterday night in what Hawaiians would call 3 to 4 ft (reality is 2 overhead). Today, Cloudbreak was pumping, before the wind kind of crashed the party…but not for the pro-kiters who had a go at it. And from what I heard, they scored massive barrels, hands up in the sky to touch the curtain (wishful thinking in this size, as you can imagine…).

Lefts saw a few brave souls being towed in. Even Swimming Pool, the mellow right of the island, normally so much smaller than the rest of the breaks, looked like a mini-Teahupoo this morning. So thick and slabby, it was mad !!

From tomorrow onwards, the swell is dropping a notch so that ‘’normal people’’ can get back in the water. Let’s see…

Last report from paradise. See you soon back home.

Update 8th May 2013

There were plenty of smiles going down in the surf this morning, mostly from the surfers who were ripping up the clean face of the wave, while the other guy/guys with the frowns languished behind them in the spray and foam.

It’s always funny how the intense, frothing madness produced by good waves tends to reveal the animal inside us. That right hander at 3rd ramp is easily the best bank on Sydney’s Southside right now and obviously everyone knows about it.

Great surfing was going down by Ian ‘what bad knee?’ Wallace and the stylish smoothness of Pama Davies whose surfing has finally reached that level where it’s turning heads. Bondi’s next gen is look promising.

Get wet, it’s worth it!

If there is one place in the World that over-promise's but will over-deliver as well, it's Namotu Island !

Before you get there, you know it's going to be great. Expectations are high. But once you're on the island, after a short flight from home, a quick bus drive and a fast boat across: you're in paradise. ''Paradise'' is not the right word, as it would not do it justice. It's way better than that ! From the inherent beauty of the place, the smiles of the hosts, the comfort of the facility, and the flexibility in allowing to do everything you want, or surf all the spots you want, this place is magic. You wish, you get. Simple.

Surfwise, it's been small (in the local standards), but a big swell is on its way for tomorrow and Wednesday. Cloudbreak is expected to be 10ft !! Stay tuned for (hopefully) quite spectacular waves. The real unknown at the moment is the wind. It could make these two days become great or average. I learned tonight that a few people are flying over just for the swell, from Hawaii or Oz'…so it better be good !

Back home it looks like you have waves, and good size ones. Too bad you guys have to wear a wetty ! 😉

Have a nice day !

Update 6th May 2013

There are some mad ones out there on this chilly Monday morning. Bondi is really consistent at a good sized 3 – 4ft and is grabbing most of the SE swell that is on offer. This means there is plenty of waves going around for everyone today. There was a great looking left just off 3rd ramp that occasionally turned on! The moral of this little story is to get out there. Your guaranteed to get a few today!

There will be waves for the rest of this week. Nothing mental but you will be getting wet! Take advantage while that water is warm.

Big French Franck is at Namotu in Fiji at the moment and it looks like Cloudbreak and Resturants might just be pumping so keep an eye out for his reports from one of the best places on earth!

Have a great day – Brad 😉
