Update 23rd March 2012

There is a nice 3-4 swell running today and conditions are beautiful, with light off shore winds and sunshine. After yesterdays horrible conditions, it seemed everyone was up early to take advantage of the beautiful beach conditions.

Unfortunately, for all the early surfers, the deep gutters between the shore and outer banks, combined with the rising tide was turning the nice clean swell into fool’s gold at Bondi, Tama and Bronte. There was the occasional right at Bronte and odd wide left at Tama but all in all, kind of disappointing.

On the up side, it looks like being off shore all day today. Maybe as the tide drops out later we will start to see some of these clean swell lines lose their wobble and produce the goods.

It’s been pumping over in the West for the start of the Telstra Drug Aware Pro and all the focus has been on the 40 year old, 11 time world champ – Kelly Slater, who attacked ‘The Box’ 2 days ago – one of Australia’s heaviest and original slab waves. Apparently the aging king ruled the session, as usual. How does he do it? I think he must be a vampire!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Update 22nd March 2012

The clock clicked over to 9pm last night and, just like that, the wind swung around and started to howl and squeal from the south. There were gusts up around the 45 knot mark. Needless to say it has ripped the ocean apart as I saw on the early drive through today. It's not a pretty picture out there and I came up a couple of images short for today's update, so I thought why not pull up some images from Cape Solander, that I took a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully you got to have a paddle yesterday. There were a few barrels out at Tamarama on the mid-tide but by the time I had a chance to get wet it had turned into a mini Teahupoo – threatening to chop my head off. Maroubra was on and a few mates also scored a sick session down at Mick Lowe's local down south.

Be on your toes tomorrow morning because NW – W winds are forecast. Could be some good ones around.

How fun would this be on days like this…. WATCH

Update 21st March 2012

Just in case you don't know we do have some waves. It's not fully cranking right now ( too high ) but who knows what the day may bring as the tide drops out. There are some 4+ lines rocking in from the East and it looks semi powerful with a lot of meat behind them. Somewhere would be off the hook right now.

There was a solid crew on it early at Tamarama taking full advantage of the cleaner conditions. It was puffing ever so lightly from the NW and will shift around more to the NNE later on meaning conditions are going to be rad all day.

The sunrise this morning was a pearler. It only lasted a couple of minutes but I managed to capture the million dollar strip all lit up in all its glory.

Check this Video my mate Franck Gazzola put together for Kitewest.com.au. What a way to learn how to kiteboard!

Our gallery is open today till 5pm. Don't forget we have some funky stuff on our walls for your walls!

Have a bright and sunny day – Brad

Update 20th March 2012

I dropped in at Coogee this morning before sun up, on my way to Maroubra. I can’t believe how many people are out there training before work these days. Surf swimmers, beach sprinters, weight classes. The place was going crazy and everyone is looking so lean and so mean! What happened to having a coffee and cigarette, while waiting at the bus stop with sleep still in your eyes?

Surf is still Joe average, with onshore winds chopping up 3-4 feet of swell but there are waves to ride. I noticed a few bluebottles washing around on the shore line too, so maybe a full suit could be the call, even if it’s still a little warm for one.

Here is an edgy little CLIP from Cape Solander last week. Such a crazy wave that I never get sick of shooting. Lets hope for more juicy ground swells to get the place firing a little more often this year.

Have a good one!
