Update 24th August 2012

We have another 2 x FREE TICKET's to giveaway from Storm Surfers 3D today for a screening on Saturday night at Cremorne's Orpheum at 6.30pm. Simply click HERE and tell us who the latest addition to the Frothers' team is. I'll give you a hint. He eats french cheese and loves french wine. It's that easy to go in the running! Congrats to yesterday's winner Steve A.

I hit the water at Bondi this morning and wow it was crispy. A bit of a shock to the old system that's for sure. The sun is out though which should turn the day into a cracker a bit later on –  when those WNW winds are expected to ease off. Nowhere at all to recommend today. I doubt very much there is even a ripple now leading into the high tide. Find a sunny spot out of the wind and just tan it up I say.

Could be a little bump from the south on Sunday morning. Monday is looking better. Tomorrow is tiny again. Go to the markets with your loved one!

Have a wonderful weekend frothdogs! – Brad

Update 23rd August 2012

FREE tickets to Storm Surfers 3D to give-away. If you want to go along to Friday night's screening at Randwick Ritz here's your chance to win 2 free tix. Simply click HERE and tell us which photographer has the featured image this week. It's that easy to go in the running! For more Storm Surfers info go HERE.

Waves are a rare commodity today. If any, it's ankle-high, at best.

But, it's damn sunny, it's warm. This NW winds is a blessing: 15 degrees at 5:45am this morning, and already 20 degrees at 8:30am !

So today, it's all about the people, not the surf. The Yogi, the runners, the swimmers, the skateboarders…everyone who makes the beach alive, even when the Tasman Sea is having a nap.

This is my last up-date in Australia for a month. Why ? Because, I am off to France to get married to the most amazing lady in the World.

But, at Frothers, we try to keep things interesting…so stay tuned for some special reports in the coming weeks !

Going to the theater to watch STORM SURFERS 3D is probably the only way for you to get some big swell this week. So, go and check it out. The trailer is amazing !

I know I'll go for sure !

Talk to you soon, from the other side, where the cheeses smell like feet and where the French wine is cheap !

Update 22nd August 2012

Kite Surfing seems like a great sport for people who like to ‘burn the candle’.

The wind is usually an afternoon thing, so a good sleep in isn’t necessarily a recipe for missing out on the best conditions of the day if your goal is rigging a kite and attacking some waves.

For a normal surfer of coarse it’s usually the opposite, with the early, windless conditions being the optimum time for ripping it up. So therefore, if you like to party and you’re sick of missing the early, glassy conditions, this could be the sport for you.

I am really enjoying my last week on Namotu. Shooting Ben Wilson’s Kite Surfing Camp. It has been a real eye opener for me, as I had very little idea about this 3 dimensional sport. It’s really just an extension of surfing – harnessing the wind to power a normal surfboard and like a lot of tow surfers these days, most prefer to do it ‘strapless’ so you can move your feet, as you do when you normally ride waves.

I’ll tell you one thing, its fast! And you can certainly cover some distance over the ocean in very little time. In that way, it’s very similar to wind surfing but less restricted, as you are riding your own short board that you would normally surf.

It’s very cool!

Click HERE for a look at Ben in action, riding what is recorded to be, the largest wave ever kite surfed. It was shot here in Fiji, at Cloudbreak Reef last year.

Update 21st August 2012

It's great to be back! Even better after witnessing the sunrise from the Bondi Icebergs while the usual gang of swimmers were slugging it out in the pool. Although 3 weeks in Turkey was fun and a nice change to life in the bubble of the eastern beaches – there is absolutely no place like home. I love taking pictures as you all know and there is nothing like shooting Bondi after a few weeks away.

Today you will find 2 ft waves rolling through from the south. Winds were NW early and is expected to turn to the NE, which means conditions at Bondi will be ok most of the day. It is a little fat and full with the 10.39am high tide right now. Mid afternoon would be a better time to get out there before the grommets hit it after school.

No real waves to speak of for the next week. Only some NE windswell on the radar for Thursday and Friday.

Enjoy the day! – Brad

Update 17th August 2012

Late nights and early starts is the norm for the true surfer on holiday in Fiji.

This week on Namotu, our tiny Fijian island ‘Parataisi’ (Fijian for paradise) it has just about been as good as it can get. Solid swell, perfect winds, amazing fishing and outlandish partying has certainly not been hard to take even if I’m feeling a little frazzled for it all.

I won’t bore you with the finer details of how good I have it right now and will just let my images do the talking for me. I have so many great ones that it was really hard to just pick 7. I had some stunning underwater but I decided to run with mostly our best day at Cloudbreak, because after all, that is what I would want to see.

Have a good weekend back home everyone. See you again next week from the beautiful Namotu Island Resort, my final week in Parataisi.

Time to run. The boat to Cloudbreak won’t wait for an old Frother like me.

Yeeew!
