Update 14th August 2012

I've made it. A few more sea miles have been knocked up in the log book. I am now in Istanbul for a bit of a look see before heading home.

Ok I know! So cruising southern Turkey wasn't exactly like being out in the blue water. I've done that and it is hard work. I think at last count I had 6 Atlantic crossings under my belt and while cruising in the Med no way compares –  your still out at sea and on boats, shit can hit the fan real quick if your not onto it! So I am happy all went well. Here are a few shots I took along the way.

If your looking for a surf report out of me today then I am afraid you are out of luck. How about you guys let me know how it is? Did you surf this morning? Was it good? Can't wait for a wave later in the week. You see right outside my hotel window is the Black Sea and she is flat. Just a whole bunch of container ships heading off to countries like Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria.

I never thought I'd find myself in this part of the world. But I am super excited to hit up Istanbul for a few photos for my next report! Look out later in the week.

Update 13th August 2012

Life is a mix of priorities and dreams. Personally, for me anyway, it’s a battle between attaining the means to support a comfortable existence for my family, while at the same time trying to enjoy what you could term, ‘my own selfish dream’. Which of course, is surfing.

Doing a 3 week stint at the beautiful Namotu Island Resort in Fiji, shooting the guests and surfing breaks like Cloudbreak Reef, is about as close as you can get to achieving THE dream, while at the same time also maintaining the other priority.

But honestly, it was never about the money. As soon as the email came through for this wonderful opportunity to work over here in paradise for a while, there was only one word, only one selfish thought that ever entered my mind… Cloudbreak!

After a week of ordinary weather by Fiji standards, things have finally turned around. The last few days have been what dreams are made of; sunny, off shore and 4 – 8 feet of solid ground swell and there is more on the way, thanks to the terrible weather all you folks in Sydney have unfortunately been putting up with the last few days. All that huge south swell is now marching straight up the pacific and into our lap. What some have to endure for others to prosper, or so you could say.

I hope it pumps at home on the down turn for everyone to enjoy as well.

Cheers.

Billy

Update 10th August 2012

Yesterday we traveled inland and visited an ancient city, on the south western coast of Turkey near a town called Dalyan. The ancient city, Caunos, was positioned conveniently on a river bank some 2000 years BC. Caunos's ruins have only recently been excavated of silt build-up to reveal more of this ancient beauty. Along with the ancient structures & Roman baths, Lycian rock tombs that are carved into nearby cliff faces make this a must-see on any itinerary. For me it was cultural overload and my day's adventure resulted in a sore trigger finger from taking so many snaps.

While there is no surf to report on here, I've put a few photos of my Turkish escape together for you today. Back home there looks to be a big swell from the south that will be around all weekend accompanied with strong S-SW winds. The BOM has forecast dangerous surf conditions, so put that rock-fishing trip on hold.

Enjoy the weekend. I'll bring you more from Turkey next week, Bill from Fiji and Franck is keeping his eye on Sydney. Cheers, Brad.

PS The gallery is open all weekend!

Update 9th August 2012

Sometimes paradise doesn’t quite live up to it’s name.

I’ve been lucky enough to score a job at the beautiful Namotu Island Resort for 3 weeks, shooting the guests. I didn’t come for the money of coarse, I came to surf my brains out at some of the best breaks on the planet, namely Cloudbreak Reef.

I was fortunate to step straight into a couple of fun 4 foot days of surf but it has since deteriorated to a very small 1 to 2 feet of dribble. Unfortunately we have also had some of the worst weather the island has experienced since the cyclone in March, with strong winds and rain.

It can’t be perfect all the time and it won’t be long until paradise returns. Tomorrow even looks to be that day, so hopefully my next report will show some of the true Fiji magic this place can produce.

On the home front, it looks like more south ground swell coming for the Eastern Beaches this weekend with strong, cold south winds.

Keep your hoody handy guys.
