Update 16th September 2013

Its gone all dark and gloomy on us all. Conditions early were ideal – no wind, glassy and 2 – 3ft of SSE swell getting into Bondi. But before we knew it the wind came up from the E and turned it into a mess. To top it off it's now raining heavily. Look out for that storm water pollution if you decide to paddle out.

It looks like you will be surfing the rest of the week. A good combo of swell and wind in there too I see!

Enjoy the day! – Brad

Update 13th September 2013

So winter isn’t over yet, I thought it finished 2 months ago, it certainly didn't feel like it did this morning. That howling SW wind which sprung up late yesterday afternoon confirmed we actually do still live in Sydney and not Queensland, even though it may have felt that way for the last couple of months.

Jumping out of bed at 5:30am, there was no way I was wearing shorts. As I scratched through the washing frantically for 5 minutes, trying to find a pair of jeans and socks, I was sure I was going to miss an epic sunrise shot. Thanks to the thick cloud, I didn’t miss a thing.

After shooting for while in the less than impressive light, I brushed the real camera, grabbed my GoPro and board and went surfing at Bronte! It was actually quite fun with some nice lefts running all the way to shore. It’s amazing how quick a little sand has filled back in after being so deep off the beach for months . You could have moored the QE2 in there!

Surfers! Stop taking your antidepressants, it looks like waves for the next 3 days. Hallelujah!

Up-date 11th September 2013

How cold was this morning…compared to yesterday !?

We’re back in the 20s, after a 30+ day yesterday. What an amazing feel at the beach but what a mess in the forest with all those bushfires…scary !

I decided to have a quick swim today in Tama, where just a few souls were playing with the 1 to 2ft waves on offer. Clear water, and offshore in the morning. As I left, the wind started to shift a notch. Not sure if the nice conditions of the morning will hold that long. Worth checking it out later today. I shot a lot underwater this morning, but this was….inconclusive, not to say very disappointing. I wish I could have used a fisheye lens instead of the 50mm for this.

Have a fun day people !

Update 10th September 2013

5:15am and it was almost light. Well, just light enough to see a pack of push bike riders running a red and after almost mowing down a few, I pulled myself back together and continued heading for the beach, still a little shaken.

A quick coffee and a chat while observing a very flat looking Bondi, I decided it was too boring to deal with, so I headed south to Tamarama where things weren’t that much better.

The sun popped out from behind the clouds just as I hit the water, adding warmth and colour and lifting the bar on what was up until that point, a mildly, drab spring day. The water clarity is amazing right now due to the flat conditions and as I swam out in the rip, schools of Luderick (black fish) covered the sandy bottom next to the reef.

Strong N-W winds were predicted today but as yet they haven’t showed up. They won’t do much for the surf but keep your fingers crossed, there may be some waves Thursday, maybe…

Update 9th September 2013

It was good to see some waves down at Bondi this morning. A new south groundswell has moved in and on the high tide it could provide some fun ones. Early looked kinda average on low water, but as I hung around things got a little better down there. It's 2 ft maybe 3 ft and the conditions are ideal. Light NW winds are always welcome around this part of the hood. Oh! and did I mention that I think the water has warmed up a notch!

The end of the week is looking ordinary weather wise so best make the most of the sunny conditions while we have it!

Enjoy your day – Brad 😉
