Update 9th November 2010

A word to sum up last week's conditions? Average comes to mind! Due to our 'average' surf we called on Sean Davey, who has come through with some great shots from the distant shores of Hawaii. Waimea Bay had its first swell of the season and Sunset got to a good 10ft. Sean captured it all. Although there was not much happening in Sydney's east last week, it was a big week for the worldwide surf community. On a high note Kelly Slater has taken out his 10th World Championship title and though this should be a moment of pure joy, the death of 3x World Champ Andy Irons has led to sorrow far & wide. Two moments in surfing history that will be remembered for vastly different reasons.
Sean's Hawaiian images should help you get your surf fix this week, as there is not much heading our way until late in the week. There's a 3 – 4ft NE windswell on the way for Friday and Saturday which could be fun. Have a DOOZEY week!

Update 1st November 2010

Last week was the week we had to have. You know we don't want to be burnt out just yet. Although being surfed out is a good thing it sure as didn't happen last week.  There wasn't much on offer at all. There only a few little windows of opportunity for the dedicated few. Bondi kept the longboarders happy while McKenzies helped the groms stay out of trouble for yet another week.

Sculptures by the Sea is on again and yep if your thinking about going for your daily coastal track run. Forget about it! The path is packed full of Sculpture enthusiasts so good luck navigating the bends for the next couple of weeks. Oh and your chances of finding a car park.

In other news KRACK KONCEPT surf shop on Campbell Pde is having a closing down sale. The guys are out from 15th November so this is your chance to get some cool threads at ridiculous prices as everything must be sold. Get in there sooner rather than later. Everything from boardies to leggies to surfboards must be sold.

Wave wise the rest of the week is looking average. There will be waves but nothing to get too excited about as the winds look to be constantly onshore from the SE. Make the most of it anyway and you might just be caught in next weeks update!

Update 25th Oct 2010

After last weekend where the waves pumped hard and the crowds were gigantic you could have been forgiven for thinking that you were going to get a peak to yourself on Monday. It was not be, Bronte was packed, fortunately the corner at Bondi looked like it was closing out and the crowds were down but if you persisted there were some screamer barrels to poke your head out of and wave to the masses.

As the week went on the lifeguard rip bowl came to life and every semi retired to retired longboarder was out there weaving their oceanliners through the flotsam and jetsam. Greg and Stan you know who you are 😉 Honestly though, if you were patient you could literally do 6 turns to the beach and maybe even claim a head dip at the end.

The weekend was a bit of a letdown wave wise. Unless you  were a grommet the size of Frankie or PK Saturday was a great day for sun baking. The less said about Sunday the better. To see how much the groms were having hit this link HERE.

Have a great week boys and girls and play nice with the other kids…Yeeeew!!!

Frothers Update 18th Oct 2010

Summer is performing quite the sporadic tease at the moment as our days flit between hot & steamy to cold & windy. Winter made one last horah on Saturday as the wind blew off the mountains and with the blink of an eye the surf went from a meagre 2 foot to a solid 6ft. As the surf built over night we were greeted with 6 foot sets on Sunday morning. This was great for the chargers over at Bronte Video who had a solid session but the conditions were not too favourable for the longboarders at the Chloe Byron Memorial Comp Click here for pics. Competition went ahead amid the rolling sets and closeouts with snapped boards a plenty to show for it. Kevin Holt took it out from Lifeguard Harries Carroll. A special mention to Col Sutherland and Peter Chapman who were ripping all day! Some great surfing went down and all for a great cause.

There's waves all week so get out there. Check out Coastalwatch for the latest forecast HERE by Ben Mc

Chloe Byron Memorial Longboard Comp

With the wild and woolly weather of Saturday it wasn't looking good for the Chloe Byron Memorial Comp on Sunday; but someone up there flicked the switch with the wind settling and the sun shining for the annual event. The men had a great turn out of both young and old competitors but the big surf seemed to have scared off a few of the ladies. Before each heat all of the competitors had to shake their groove thang, a delight for some stage ponies but horror for others. For those of us who didn't get our feet wet, not only did we get to laugh at the below par dance moves we were also entertained by the tunes being belted out and MC Henry Brycki's comedic antics on the microphone. A gold coin donation for an endless supply of jambalaya and crusty bread; could it get any better? If you were one of the guys dominating the raffle, then yes!
The surf was solid and closing out but that didn't stop the longboarders of all ages including the little junior burgers. All of the kids walked away with a bag full of goodies and a huge smile, but there could only be one winner for the main events. Taking out first place for the men was last year's winner Kevin Halt, with Bronte's Nicola Atherton topping the ladies' final. While winning the event is something special, the biggest round of applause was reserved for two heart felt presentations. The first, in honor of an award Chloe had won herself, 'The gutsiest effort' award was presented to Jennifer Reynolds and the 'Aloha spirit' award was given to a well deserving Z-Man. The Aloha spirit is a great way to sum up the day. Smiles all around, donations from the community and a wonderful show of support for a wonderful family.

Update 12th October 2010

G'day Frothers. Well there wasn't any lack of waves over the weekend. Some bump out of the S to SE and light onshores kept most of you bunch happy! Those who stayed in town any way. I was away at my best mate's wedding up at the beautiful Hunter Valley. Wow, how good is it up there. Fine wine and dining and yes the golf did test my patience. What a wedding it was! Congrats to Mr and Mrs Morgan!

The Frothers' Photogs were all out in force last week. Billy Morris doing the rounds locally and Maroubra's Jeremy Wilmotte had a trip to the South Pacific. He's been kind enough to give us a little taste of what went down. You can see the shots in the back half of this week's slideshow!

Bondi Boardriders went south on the weekend to take on the Werri Boardriders club and came away with a convincing win. Check out the footage in this week's Bondeye Candy wrap up.

Today marks 8yrs passed since the 2002 Bali bombings. Take a moment today to reflect on the tragedy and remember the loss and heartache that we all went through when over 200 people were killed. Even better get down to Bondi on Sunday 17th October and take part in the Annual Chloe Byron Memorial Longboard Comp. More info in our articles.

No shortage of swell this week. So make the most of it! Cheers – Brad
