Winter Combo

Hi Frothers,

As the swell is ”finally” dropping off significantly, let me share with you some shots of yesterday.

With the light becoming a lot more cooperative than on Monday, yesterday was a cracker to shoot: strong offshore feathering every wave, some elegant Winter sun rays and still a very strong swell sticking around. Perfect Winter combo.

I had to face a choice in the arvo: heading South to see the final of the RedBull Cape Fear event, or head to Coogee. I was leaning towards making my way to Kurnell. But I got a text from el compadre Sebastien Diaz telling me that Coogee was still firing. I decided to go down the Coogee way. I wasn’t disappointed. Waves, waves, waves, waves, & whales (a bit too far for a good photo though) !

Today, the northern end of Bondi was working magically, but the real pick was Tama. Stay tuned to today’s shots, they’ll come to your inbox tomorrow.

The search for the missing body was still on this morning around our beaches. Sad.

Enjoy the day and be safe !

Big Monday

Hi Frothers,

What a day yesterday ! It felt almost unreal. It brought adrenaline and humility to anyone’s watching the amazing show of the swell of the decade, potentially of the century ? As SwellNet published this morning: ”The maximum wave reading on the Eden buoy was 17.67 metres – yes, you read that right – which passed the buoy at 4 am this morning. Put all the data into the equation and that’s equal to a 1 in 85 year event.”

So I spent the entire day shooting this absolute beauty of the angry ocean, from land and in the sky. Ben Buckler was on with Rob Norman & Co took the dust of the guns, and the Bombie was absolutely firing at Coogee,  where Jeremy Willmott charged real hard (more images to come soon). Waves for days. Shots for weeks. So here are just a few of yesterday. I’ll be posting some shots of this morning in tomorrow’s update, as the conditions are slowly getting a lot more manageable everywhere.

Meanwhile, Brad Malyon was ensuring the riders’ safety at the first day of the crazy RedBull CapeFear event, currently live for day 2 of the competition. See it live here. It’s epic ! The local boys are killing it: Perth, Blake, Justin, Kobi…Worth streaming on your phone whilst grabbing a cuppa. It’s next level !

The ocean made a victim last night in Bondi. Be careful if you’re planning to go out today. It’s still really tricky.

Have a great day !

Back To Normal

Hi Frothers,

Back in Bondi, and back to normal. This intense swell pulse is definitely still around, pushing water to our shores. Much more fun than yesterday. Bondi is just getting the right size to avoid excessive close-outs and Tama/Bronte looked fun as: Great day for it guys !

The last days, the IT hueys did not collaborate, which explains the radio silence. A couple of days of maintenance to allow to further enhance the website turned into a week. But it’s all back to normal now. We can get cracking on making our online gallery better again.

We are also happy to announce the start of a show at the Muchacho Clothing Store on 35 Hall Street in Bondi, starting tonight. So, to celebrate and open this new show, we’re inviting you for a few drinks tonight, starting tonight from 6pm. Make sure you come and say g’day ! If you can’t make it, no drama: the artworks will be there for the next few weeks. Go check them out in your own time.

Have a great day !

Perfect Friday

Hi Frothers,

I had a slow start today, due to a late night on a video job (not complainin’, just sayin’…). This is why this morning I took it slow and went first for a coffee (yes, I am an addict) and then made my way to the South Bondi platform area, aka ‘’the Eagle’s nest’’, alongside Amaury Tréguer from Morning Bondi (@morningbondi).

I must say that this was the perfect spot to be. What I find amazing is the ability to shoot so many different things from the same spot. In one look, you can get a real flavour of Bondi in the morning: the bay, the waves, the surfers, the yogis, the joggers, the dog walkers, the icebergs swimmer, etc. The best vantage point in town.

As you can see, there is sun…and surf ! Perfect Friday.

I did not have the time to wonder around to Tama or Bronte, but I’d reckon there’d be a wave there too.

Have a great weekend my friends. Next up-dates will come from Byron Bay (I’m sure you won’t mind…)

Optimists

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Hi Frothers,

I like the fact that some people will always ALWAYS see the glass half full. This morning, I saw just a few optimists on their surfboards around Bondi and 1 single one in Bronte.

As you can see, today is flat as Trump’s brainwave. Nothing. Nada. Perfect for a swim in summer coloured water !

Have a nice day.

Salt Water Junkies

Hi Frothers,

I decided to have a swim with the salt water junkies. They’re a weird bunch. They gather in the dark, and sneak into the water before everyone is even out the door to get their first coffee fix (aka ”the coffee junkies”).

Some of them can space out their fix for a longer period of time and would wait for the next big delivery of dope swell. Some others can’t get clean. Regardless of the size, they have to go. 100% dependant on their daily fix. Every man/woman for him/herself. 10 per wave. Typical withdrawal symptoms.

Those junkies have that one specific thing though: they look happy. They smile. They froth on life.

The only bad thing that I happened to me with those salt water junkies today is a couple of fins that acted like 2 sharp knives on my back. 2 large clean cuts in my brand new Patagonia wetsuit (frustrated sigh…). Lucky for me Patagonia is good at doing repairs (feeling a bit better sigh…). I think I will ask Aquatech to paint my next water-housing in yellow with flashing lights or something.

Have a nice day
